It\u2019s always exciting to hit a new milestone with the climate action platform, Ecologi. Through our partnership we have helped to fund 45 verified carbon avoidance projects alongside planting trees, meaning we have now contributed to the saving of an incredible of over 50 tCO2e from being emitted. That\u2019s the equivalent 124,621miles driven in a car or 151metres2 of sea ice saved!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The three key carbon avoidance projects that we\u2019ve helped fund to achieve this are:
<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Turning waste biogas into electricity in Thailand – 17.33 Tonnes CO2e avoided<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

This project at the Thai San Miguel Liquor (TSML) distillery in Bangkok captures biogas from wastewater using methane digesters. By installing a digester between the sump pit and lagoons, methane is extracted and converted into electricity. Previously, wastewater was treated in anaerobic lagoons, allowing methane to escape. Now, the captured biogas powers TSML\u2019s boilers and is fed into the Thai national grid, reducing fossil fuel reliance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The project cuts emissions by over 87,000 tonnes annually while creating jobs and training opportunities. The project owner also supports community initiatives, including funeral care and festival sponsorships for Ton Lum Yai temple during Loy Krathong.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Fuel efficient cookstoves in Honduras Tonnes – <\/strong>3.55<\/strong> CO2e avoided<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

In Honduras, 1.1 million families cook with biomass on open stoves, contributing to deforestation and air pollution. These stoves emit greenhouse gases and harmful pollutants, impacting health\u2014especially for women and children.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This project, run by Envirofit, distributes 300,000 fuel-efficient cookstoves across Honduras. By improving heat transfer efficiency, the stoves reduce wood consumption, slowing deforestation and cutting emissions. Cleaner combustion improves indoor air quality, benefiting household health.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Manufactured in Tegucigalpa, the cookstoves support 200 direct jobs, with 45% of factory staff being women. The project reduces emissions by 42,000 tonnes annually and saves 5.1 million tonnes of wood over five years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Avoiding methane emissions from landfill in Brazil – <\/strong>3.53 <\/strong>Tonnes CO2e avoided<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Brazil is the world\u2019s fifth-largest waste producer, generating 79.9 million tonnes of municipal solid waste in 2015\u20141.071 kg per person daily. Most waste ends up in landfills, where it decomposes and releases methane, a greenhouse gas 34 times more potent than carbon dioxide.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Maca\u00fabas Landfill Gas Project in Sabar\u00e1, Minas Gerais, captures and flares landfill gas to prevent methane emissions. Initially, gas was collected passively with no systematic flaring. This project installs active extraction, flaring, and electricity generation systems, reducing emissions and providing renewable energy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

With total emission reductions of 102,580 tCO\u2082e, the project prevents methane release while exporting electricity to the grid. It also creates jobs, as trained operators are needed to manage the system.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
