February 2026 is a great moment to reflect on the practical environmental impact we\u2019re helping to support through our eco-project partner Ecologi. This month, we\u2019re spotlighting two initiatives: Project 1, restoring the last fragment of tropical rainforest in Kenya, and Project 2, carbon removal through afforestation in S\u00e3o Paulo, Brazil.<\/p>\n

Project 1: restoring the last fragment of tropical rainforest in Kenya<\/b><\/p>\n

Kenya has faced increasingly erratic rainfall in recent years, widely linked to the depletion of the country\u2019s five major \u201cwater towers\u201d \u2013 vital highland ecosystems that regulate water flow into rivers and reservoirs. When these landscapes are degraded, the effects reach far beyond the forest edge: reduced water security, greater flood risk during heavy rains, and longer dry spells that put pressure on farming, wildlife, and communities.<\/p>\n

This project focuses on restoring a remaining fragment of tropical rainforest, rebuilding a living system that supports biodiversity while also protecting the wider water cycle. Reforestation and habitat restoration help stabilise soils, improve infiltration, and maintain more consistent river flows, which is crucial in regions where livelihoods depend on predictable seasons. It\u2019s a reminder that rainforest restoration is not only about trees; it\u2019s about safeguarding the natural infrastructure that underpins water, food, and resilience.<\/p>\n

Project 2: carbon removal through afforestation in S\u00e3o Paulo, Brazil<\/b><\/p>\n

Afforestation in S\u00e3o Paulo offers a targeted way to remove carbon from the atmosphere while addressing broader ecological pressures. By establishing new forest cover in appropriate areas, this work helps counter the legacy of deforestation and land-use change that has fragmented habitats and reduced nature\u2019s capacity to recover.<\/p>\n

Alongside carbon removal, afforestation can mitigate soil degradation by improving soil structure, reducing erosion, and enhancing moisture retention. Over time, healthier soils and increased vegetation cover can support more stable local microclimates and better conditions for surrounding ecosystems. The result is a multifaceted solution that supports biodiversity and long-term land stewardship, while contributing to measurable climate action.<\/p>\n
