May 2026 is a great moment to reflect on the practical environmental impact we can all support through everyday choices. At Enbecom, we continue to back environmental projects around the world with our eco-project partner Ecologi, and this month we\u2019re spotlighting two initiatives that focus on long-term carbon removal: Project 1, producing biochar from waste biomass in Wales, and Project 2, regenerating agricultural land to remove carbon.<\/p>\n

Project 1: producing biochar from waste biomass in Wales<\/b><\/p>\n

When biomass decomposes naturally, carbon dioxide and methane are released into the atmosphere. By contrast, producing biochar takes waste biomass and converts it into a stable, carbon-rich material through a controlled heating process with limited oxygen. The result is a form of carbon storage that is far more durable than leaving organic matter to break down in the open.<\/p>\n

What makes biochar especially compelling is its longevity. Because biochar is very stable, it can lock carbon away for decades to centuries when incorporated into soils, offering a more permanent method of removing carbon dioxide. Alongside the climate benefit, it can also support healthier soils by improving water retention and nutrient availability, helping land stay more productive and resilient.<\/p>\n

Supporting projects like this in Wales also highlights an important principle: effective climate action can be local as well as global. Turning waste streams into a valuable, climate-positive material is a strong example of circular thinking that reduces emissions while strengthening natural systems.<\/p>\n

Project 2: regenerating agricultural land to remove carbon<\/b><\/p>\n

Regenerative agriculture is more than just an agricultural technique; it is a holistic approach to farming that emphasises the restoration of soil health and the rejuvenation of ecological systems. By prioritising living roots, soil cover, biodiversity, and reduced disturbance, regenerative practices can help soils rebuild organic matter and improve their ability to store carbon.<\/p>\n

Healthy soils are one of the most scalable carbon sinks available, and they also deliver benefits that extend well beyond carbon removal. Farms that improve soil structure and biology can often see better water infiltration, reduced erosion, and improved resilience to extreme weather, all while supporting wildlife and strengthening local ecosystems.<\/p>\n

Projects focused on land regeneration remind us that climate solutions do not need to be separate from productivity. With the right support, farming can be a powerful force for restoring landscapes, improving food system resilience, and creating measurable environmental gains year after year.<\/p>\n

We\u2019re proud to have funded the planting of 4751 trees since the start of our partnership with Ecologi over 5 years.<\/p>\n
