As we navigate through July 2025, we at Enbecom continue to support environmental projects across the globe, in association with our eco-project partner, Ecologi. This month, we would like to spotlight two inspiring projects, namely the production of biochar from waste biomass in Wales and the restoration of native Polylepis forests in the high Andes.
Producing biochar from waste biomass in Wales
When biomass decomposes naturally, it emits carbon and methane into the atmosphere, speeding up climate change. However, an innovative project in Wales is turning this process on its head by transforming waste biomass into biochar. Biochar is a very stable substance and doesn’t decompose like standard biomass. By converting waste biomass into biochar, we can manage a more permanent method of removing carbon dioxide from the atmosphere. This process not only helps in reducing carbon emissions but also contributes towards a cleaner and healthier environment.
Restoring native Polylepis forests in the high Andes
In the high Andes, a significant initiative is underway to restore the native Polylepis forests. These forests are home to a diverse range of flora and fauna, many of which are unique to this region. The project ensures that on average, between 65 and 90% of the trees planted are locally prevalent Polylepis species, with other native species depending on the region. This approach maintains the ecological integrity of the region while restoring the forests to their former glory.
We’re proud to have funded the planting of 4599 trees since the start of our partnership with Ecologi over 4 years. This commitment reflects our dedication towards creating a sustainable future, one tree at a time.
