As we move into August 2025, we’re thrilled to continue our support for environmental projects across the globe in partnership with our eco-project partner, Ecologi. This month, we’re shining a spotlight on two remarkable initiatives: the protection of the Matavén forest in eastern Colombia, and the restoration of native Polylepis forests in the high Andes.

Project 1: Protecting the Matavén Forest

Located within Colombia’s Indigenous Reservation, the Matavén forest is a sprawling stretch of 1.15 million hectares of tropical forest. The Matavén REDD+ project aims to safeguard this biodiversity hotspot, addressing the urgent issues of deforestation and biodiversity loss. By supporting this project, we’re standing in solidarity with the local Indigenous communities and contributing towards the preservation of this critical ecosystem.

The Matavén forest is not only a home to diverse flora and fauna, but it also plays a pivotal role in mitigating climate change. Its dense tropical forest acts as a significant carbon sink, absorbing CO2 emissions and thereby reducing the overall carbon footprint. We’re incredibly proud to be part of this vital conservation effort.

Project 2: Restoring Native Polylepis Forests

High up in the Andes, an ambitious project is underway to restore the native Polylepis forests. Polylepis trees, prevalent in the region, form the bulk of the restoration efforts, accounting for between 65 and 90% of the trees planted. The remaining trees are other native species, which vary depending on the region.

These restoration efforts are crucial for maintaining the biodiversity of the high Andes and preserving the natural habitats of numerous endemic species. It’s a task fraught with challenges due to the harsh, mountainous conditions – but one that is well worth the effort.

Over the past four years, we’re proud to have funded the planting of 4612 trees since the start of our partnership with Ecologi. Our commitment to these environmental projects forms a core part of our ethos, and we’re excited to continue supporting such important work.
