June 2026 is a great moment to reflect on the practical steps we can all take to reduce our environmental impact. Through our ongoing support of environmental projects around the world with our eco-project partner Ecologi, we are shining a light on two initiatives that make a measurable difference: Project 1, peatland restoration and conservation in Indonesia, and Project 2, restoring degraded land in Brazil.
Project 1: peatland restoration and conservation in Indonesia (the Katingan Mentaya Project)
Indonesia’s peatlands are among the most important carbon stores on the planet, holding vast quantities of carbon in waterlogged soils built up over thousands of years. When peatlands are drained or degraded, they can become major sources of greenhouse gas emissions and are far more vulnerable to fires that damage ecosystems and air quality.
The Katingan Mentaya Project protects and restores 149,800 hectares of peatland, helping to keep these landscapes intact and functioning as natural carbon sinks. Just as importantly, it supports local communities by promoting sustainable livelihoods and safeguarding the natural resources people depend on, demonstrating how climate action and community wellbeing can and should go hand in hand.
Project 2: restoring degraded land in Brazil (supporting the Atlantic Forest)
Brazil’s Atlantic Forest is one of the world’s most biodiverse regions, yet it is also one of the most threatened. It is home to over 23,000 plant species, with around 40% endemic to the region, and a third of those species cannot be found anywhere else in the world. That level of uniqueness means restoration is not just about planting trees; it is about protecting an irreplaceable web of life.
Restoring degraded land helps rebuild habitat corridors, improve soil health, and stabilise local water cycles, making landscapes more resilient over time. It also creates the conditions for native species to return and thrive, which is vital for long-term ecosystem recovery and the communities that rely on healthy forests for livelihoods and natural services.
We’re proud to have funded the planting of 4771 trees since the start of our partnership with Ecologi over 5 years.
