As we move through September 2026, we’re continuing to support environmental projects around the world through our eco-project partner Ecologi. This month, we’re spotlighting two initiatives that deliver meaningful climate impact while supporting communities: Project 1 and Project 2.
Project 1: peatland restoration and conservation in Indonesia (the Katingan Mentaya Project)
Peatlands are one of the planet’s most effective natural carbon stores, holding vast amounts of carbon in waterlogged soils. When peatlands are drained or burned, that stored carbon is released into the atmosphere, accelerating climate change and increasing the risk of recurring fires. Protecting peatlands is therefore a powerful way to prevent emissions at scale.
The Katingan Mentaya Project protects and restores 149,800 hectares of peatland in Indonesia, safeguarding critical habitats while helping to preserve biodiversity and water systems. Just as importantly, conservation work here is designed to support local communities, helping to protect livelihoods and strengthen resilience in areas that can be vulnerable to land-use pressures.
Restoration efforts typically focus on keeping peat wet and intact, which reduces fire risk and supports long-term ecosystem health. By backing projects like this, we’re helping fund practical, on-the-ground work that delivers lasting benefits for both the environment and people.
Project 2: fuel-efficient cookstoves in Uganda
Clean cooking solutions offer a transformative opportunity for the 2.3 billion people without access to safe, efficient cooking alternatives. In many households, cooking is still done over open fires or basic stoves, which can drive high fuel consumption and contribute to indoor air pollution that affects health and wellbeing.
Fuel-efficient cookstoves in Uganda help households use less wood or charcoal for the same daily cooking needs. Reducing fuel demand can ease pressure on local forests and lower emissions associated with biomass burning, while also saving time and money for families who otherwise spend hours collecting or purchasing fuel.
Beyond the climate benefits, improved cookstoves can make everyday life safer and more comfortable by cutting smoke exposure in the home. It’s a practical example of how climate action and community outcomes can go hand in hand.
We’re proud to have funded the planting of 4815 trees since the start of our partnership with Ecologi over 5 years.
